Business intelligence Analyst (BI Analyst) is a role where they are responsible for analyzing data that is used by a business or organization to supports decision-making.
The BI has to consider the organization’s existing systems as well as the culture of the business. They need to understand the business development objectives, the systems and mechanisms used for data capture, and the storage and process being applied, methods used for analysis, i.e. automation of the systems, type of requirements -creative or mechanical. A business intelligence analyst can ensure that the intelligence that is gained from in-depth investigations is put to the best possible use, lest it’s implications be misread and the resultant actions taken in order to utilize it aren’t truly within the best interest of the business.
This skill set is developed in reference to people with computer science, data science and statistics expertise and more inclined towards technical or industry settings. While these skills are highly valuable, they lost focus on communication skills, which is required in influencing and informing decision makers. Every piece of data needs a voice, which is why communications skills are must; maybe the BI analyst might be writing reports for company principals, meeting with developers to improve data storage structures, or giving a presentation on performance metrics to reduce costs. In some organization, BIA is a part of the business development team working closely with strategic planning and business development to add value while decision making. Apart from that, they also perform cost-benefit analyses on strategic projects to optimize company performance, interview the employees, and observe performance to determine necessary resources, operations, personnel, facilities, and equipment.
